NARANJO RUIZ, Mónica; GUZZO, Kevin Patrick; RESTREPO DE MEJIA, Francia  e  SUAREZ DE LA TORRE, María Mercedes. METAPHOR ANALYSIS: A BRAIN AREA STUDY USING EVENT RELATED POTENTIALS. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2012, vol.25, n.1, pp.113-128. ISSN 0120-338X.

The objective of this research is to identify the greater activation of brain areas and the differences between translators and non-translators when reading metaphorical and non-metaphorical contexts using Event Related Potentials (ERPs). The theory of conceptual metaphor and ERPs associated with language constitute the theoretical framework. Corpus methodology was used to extract the metaphorical and non-metaphorical contexts; the N400 wave was recorded; and variables such as latency and amplitude were measured in an experimental and a control group. The results show that the two variables and metaphorical contexts exhibited a larger wave within the experimental group in contrast with the control group. The parietal area showed a greater activation with marked differences between the two groups.

Palavras-chave : brain areas; conceptual metaphor; event related potentials.
