This causal and comparative research project compared the argumentative writing in Spanish, the native tongue (NT) of fourth-semester students enrolled in the undergraduate bilingual program in Modern Languages -Experimental Group [EG]-, to that of their fourth-semester peers enrolled in traditional undergraduate programs in Mathematics, Spanish and Literature, Biology, and Environmental Education -Control Group [CG]- at the Universidad del Quindío, Colombia. Findings showed that the EG scored higher than the CG on argumentative writing evaluations. Thus, it was possible to conclude that the bilingual university education acquired during the first four semesters iof the Modern Languages program explains the superiority of bilingual over monolingual students in argumentative writing production.
