Abstract
GIRALDO GALLEGO, Diana Andrea. MUISCA ANTHROPNYMS DURING THE COLONIAL PERIOD (1608-1650). Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.2, pp.41-94. ISSN 0120-338X. https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v27n2.47666.
The objective of this research article, framed within indigenous onomastics, is to identify the Muisca anthroponyms found in baptism certificates issued during the Colonial period (1608-1650) by the parishes of the municipalities of Tibirita and Machetá in Cundinamarca, and Oicatá, in the department of Boyacá, Colombia. The work was carried out in the following stages: (1) selection and distribution of the baptism certificates, (2) transcription of the documents in a previously structured database, (3) identification of the Muisca anthroponyms and grouping according to the recurrence of certain lexical morphemes, (4) morphological and ethno-linguistic analysis of the anthroponyms, and (5) conclusions. The results show an approximation to morphological segmentation, the recurrence of certain morphemes in different positions, linked to gender, and the motivation in Muisca anthroponym formation. Finally, we provide a linguistic analysis on the basis of the spelling.
