HERNANDEZ RODRIGUEZ, Sonia Milena; ALERS VALENTIN, Hilton y SOTO-BARBA, Jaime. CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE INTONATION OF THE SPANISH SPOKEN IN BOGOTÁ AND IN SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) IN SIMPLE INTONATIVE SENTENCES. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.2, pp.157-181. ISSN 0120-338X. https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v27n2.47670.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the intonation of a variety of Spanish spoken in San Juan (Puerto Rico) and in Bogotá (Colombia), through the application of the autosegmental metric model (AM) to a corpus of 80 simple declarative sentences drawn from interviews carried out with 20 university students (male and female), born in the two capital cities. The AM model was applied in order to analyze the tonal movements associated with stressed syllables and the extremes of sentences, for purposes of describing the phonological organization of the sentences and establishing a repertoire of the units that make up the different intonation contours that recur in the two dialectal variants under study. The description and analysis of the phonological organization of the intonation contours made it possible to postulate the existence of contrastive accents, at both the inter-dialectal and intra-dialectal levels.
