Resumen

ARROYAVE, Myriam. THE GRAPHIC SYSTEM OF WESTERN MUSIC: A PLACE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MUSICAL THOUGHT. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.2, pp.183-205. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v27n2.47671.

The origin of musical notation is marked by a transfer of thought between geometry and music; therefore, the score constitutes a "music-world" whose objects are thought, measured, and organized hierarchically. Music and mathematics have in common notation in the form of diagrams; both think and calculate through letters, numbers, figures, and gestures. Musical activity is marked by the distancing typical of the relationship to writing, which is necessary for the development of reflection. Because of this relation, two logical conditions arise in musical activity: one related to proportion and order and the other to symbolization and discourse.

Palabras clave : musical notation; surface thought; music-mathematics relation; diagram; logos-proportion; logos-discourse.
