"Futuro do pretérito" is a polysemic tense of Portuguese that expresses also politeness value. In a quantitative approach, we propose to investigate what is the set of linguistic feature of this tense based on temporal reference. Data collecting focuses the emergence of threating face facts to predict the use of "futuro do pretérito" tense. Results point to setting of temporal reference is the present, in explanative/opinative text types and with modalization and conditional markers.
