Abstract

DELICIA, Darío Daniel. DEVELOPMENT OF SYNTAX, ARGUMENTATION AND ORIENTATIONS IN THE FIELD OF LANGUAGE TEACHING. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2015, vol.28, n.2, pp.135-153. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v28n2.53545.

This paper presents partial results of a research that, among other things, explored the relationship between the syntactic complexity of argumentations made by mid-level students and the orientation in language teaching, i.e. grammatical and discursive, adopted by the schools they attend. From a functional discursive perspective, that assumes that syntactic complexity is guided by textual organization, and within the framework of a descriptive and quantitative approach, 46 texts written by third year students of two public schools located in Córdoba, Argentina were analyzed. As to the first type of institution, results reveal a more refined syntactic production at clausal and inter-clausal level, as well as better performance in the super-clausal dimension.

Keywords : Syntactic complexity; discourse; language teaching; grammar.
