ZARATE, Germán Camilo; GONZALEZ SERRANO, Aura  and  FLOREZ ROMERO, Rita. LITERACIES FROM THE AFROCOLOMBIAN COMMUNITY OF TUMACO. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2015, vol.28, n.2, pp.155-182. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v28n2.53548.

This paper discusses the literacy of Tumaco'ts community by means of the features, uses, and assessments inhabitants provide as to their reading and writing skills. The strategies used for gathering data were observation and semi-structured interviews. Participants were inhabitants noted for their academic and cultural activities, as well as other inhabitants who shared their daily activities mediated by reading and writing. Among the key findings, one can report that Tumaco's community has a diversity of literacies: aesthetic, communitarian organization, administrative, legal, and school literacy.

Keywords : Literacy culture; oral metalanguage; new literacy studies; literacy practice and events.
