Resumen

SANTOS, Doris. ACADEMIC READING AND WRITING AND THE POLITICAL LIFE IN THE UNIVERSITY CLASSROOM: TOWARDS AN ETHICS OF LITERACY. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.2, pp.157-181. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v29n2.60193.

Academic reading and writing are nowadays a requirement to attain the missional goals of universities, not only because they contribute to the learning processes, but also because they play a key role in the consolidation of social and cultural practices of disciplines and professions. Besides these epistemic, social, and cultural dimensions, it is important to reflect on the dimension ethical-political of academic reading and writing. Based on some conceptual resources of the political theory of German intellectual Hannah Arendt, this paper discusses the way the political life is built in a course on academic reading and writing for first semester students in a Colombian university. The findings presented are an experiential base to suggest the need to promote «ethical literacy» in our universities. It should recognize, heighten, believe in, and strengthen the relational network among people involved in processes of academic reading and writing as well as foster a reflection on relationships and relational networks that are built through one's actions and words when reading and writing in higher education.
