Abstract

This article describes the construction of the discursive ethos of a community leader who, in a situation of forced population displacement, has assumed educative and social responsibilities that highlight her as a model of personal growth and social vindication for the community Las Colonias in Risaralda - Colombia. Using a video recorded in 2015, the analysis focused on the argumentative forms and metaphor use, the relationships in the grammatical person I - You of the emotional pathos, and the audiovisual semiotics to determine how she constructs herself and what can be revealed from the discourse practice in her social/educative work. Even though the discursive strategies revealed different ethe, the predominant image that she projects constitutes an ethos of vehemence referred to as «ethos of the Colombian matriarchal perseverance», which seems to be an inspirational model for those mothers who have suffered under the same circumstances.
