Abstract

ROBAYO ROMERO, Camilo Alberto. INTRODUCTION TO YUKUNA VERB PROSODY. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2018, vol.31, n.1, pp.33-63. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v31n1.70442.

The article discusses Schauer & Schauer's hypotheses regarding accent in the Yukuna language. It carries out an acoustic analysis of recently gathered data on conjugated verbs in controlled prosodic and morphological contexts, and examines the contrasts between variations in intensity and the F0 contour. The paper argues that rather than accentual behavior, Yukuna displays properties typical of tonal systems. In support of this argument, it sets forth several patterns of tonal interaction among verbal morphemes.

Keywords : Yukuna language; prosody; Arawak family; tonal system; Amazonian languages.
