Abstract

PAZ, Silvina Marcela. THE PSYCHOLOGICAL VERBS ENTENDER AND GUSTAR IN GUARANÍ-JOPARA: DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEMATIC ROLES AND ARGUMENTATIVE STRUCTURE. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2018, vol.31, n.2, pp.31-50.  Epub Oct 18, 2022. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v31n2.74653.

The article inquires into the functioning of two psychological verbs formed from the Spanish verb roots entender and gustar, incorporated into the morphosyntactic domain of Guaraní, on the basis of a corpus of Guaraní-Jopara compiled in Formosa (Argentina). Guaraní-Jopara is a predominantly oral version of Guaraní that features great permeability to verb loans, despite the semantic and morphological restrictions that make this lexical category not easily transferrable from one language to another. Through the analysis and description of the lexical-semantic properties of predicates formed with the Spanish verb roots entender and gustar, the article explains the differences found between the thematic structure and the argumentative structures in their interaction with the active/inactive and hierarchical alignment system that determines grammatical relations in Guaraní.

Keywords : Guaraní-Jopara; verb loans; alignment; psychological verbs; semantic roles.
