Abstract

ORJUELA SALINAS, Lorena  and  OSPINA BOZZI, Ana María. A TOOL TO GATHER INFORMATION ON WORD CLASSES IN DIVERSE LANGUAGES. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2019, vol.32, n.2, pp.223-254. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v32n2.80821.

The article presents a tool designed to gather fruitful, verifiable, and comparable data on word classes in different languages. Its design is the result of reflection on the theoretical and methodological problems underlying the identification and collection of data on word classes. The tool consists of a series of play activities based on the presentation of stimuli to groups of speakers of a language. Their objective is to guide the researcher in the planning and collection of utterances in discursive contexts that include linguistic elements referring to contextualized entities, properties, and events. Pilot tests were carried out with Yuhup language speakers in order to check the tool's viability. With this tool, we expect to contribute to future research on word classes and to the construction of a comparable database that fosters the analysis of languages and linguistic theory.

Keywords : word classes; morphosyntax; methodology; field work; Yuhup.
