Abstract

SPERANZA, Adriana. THE WARP OF URBAN SPEECH. THE CASE OF HIGHER EDUCATION. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2019, vol.32, n.2, pp.299-314. ISSN 0120-338X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v32n2.80825.

The article presents partial results of a larger research project aimed at studying linguistic-cultural diversity in the area of influence of the Universidad Nacional de Moreno (UNM) in Argentina. Ethnography was the fundamental methodological tool used to study the population attending the university. On the basis of the data obtained during this first stage, we have started the survey of both oral and written corpuses produced by subjects in contact with the languages and productions of monolingual subjects, who acted as control group. On this occasion, we present the results of the ethnographic inquiry stage. This work has allowed us to expand our survey in the area of influence of the UNM and learn more about the coexistence of diverse speech communities, some of which are in contact with other languages or varieties of Spanish.

Keywords : linguistic contact; speech communities; varieties of Spanish; sociolinguistics; ethnography.
