In this work, an empirical study is done by means of a survey applied to Spanish-English bilingual speakers, with a view to measuring their perception on the equivalence in the translation into English of a sample of phraseological units taken from the novel Rosario Tijeras. This work's results allow, on one hand, to determine how a bilingual reader of the English version "perceives" sense in the Spanish version in a contrastive manner, and, on the other, to draw conclusions on the translation phenomena observed from a pragmalinguistic perspective
