This paper copes with two aspects: first, about ethnic recognition since the Achaguas (an indigenous group from Los Llanos Orientales of Colombia) are undergoing a critical moment as an ethnic community, particularly concerning their language, considered to be in imminent danger of extinction (UNESCO 2009). The second implies a linguistic character, taking into account that the main axis of this work is to stress some problems around the making of this Achagua-Spanish Spanish-Achagua dictionary. Both aspects intertwine given that this dictionary, if it does not become an instrument for the concerned community, will be no more than a testimony which -along with our grammar, oral traditions, and historical works-will be checked by one or another occasional researcher interested in an Arawak-variety language
