GIL, José María. Unintentional Meanings in Communication. Leng. [online]. 2014, vol.42, n.1, pp.43-68. ISSN 0120-3479.
An utterance may evoke, among many others, certain meanings that do not depend on the speaker's intention. For example, unintended puns, lapsi linguae, or conceptual errors evoke meanings that, although independent from the speaker's intention, are recognized by the hearer. This article aims to show that a general theory of verbal interaction should be concerned with unintentional meanings, and that relational network theory (Lamb 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006) allows us to explain how the linguistic systems are able to produce those unintentional meanings
Palavras-chave : utterances; evocation; meanings; intention; relational networks.
