Abstract

VARGAS FRANCO, Alfonso. Politeness, Modalization and Argumentation in Peer Review Process at University Level. Leng. [online]. 2014, vol.42, n.2, pp.445-479. ISSN 0120-3479.

The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze the strategies of politeness in discourse and argumentation in a classroom in which writing academic texts are taught. The corpus consists of a pair of segments given in oral classroom interactions among students, and between teacher and students. These segments were recorded and transcribed by following the model of discourse analysis within the context of a didactic sequence on academic composition in the Spanish composition I course, in a training program for foreign language pre-service teachers. In the didactic sequence, peer reviewing (focus on the correction or repair of the text) was implemented. Among these texts are the compositions of summaries, reports and academic papers. This study was part of a longitudinal study, conceived as a case study. It was initially aimed in order to improve students' writing skills of academic texts. The richness and complexity of oral interactions during the peer review of academic texts in the classroom were observed in the corpus analysis
