Abstract

COLOMBO, Laura  and  CARLINO, Paula. Writing groups for the development of academic-scientific writing: A literature review of Anglo-saxon works. Leng. [online]. 2015, vol.43, n.1, pp.13-34. ISSN 0120-3479.

Writing groups -communities of writers that periodically gather to discuss drafts- are rare in Latin America. However, they are common in the Anglo-Saxon context, where they are used with pedagogical purposes. This paper reviews fifty publications and describes how these instructional initiatives work. Results indicate that writing groups improve graduate students´ and junior faculty´s publication rates by accompanying the writing acquisition process. They also help enacting real academic and scientific writing practices and, thus, differ from other pedagogical proposals that favor fragmentary exercitation

Keywords : academic literacies; postgraduate studies and faculty development; writing groups; writing pedagogies; writing practices.
