The article describes three studies that have been done in Colombia about the teaching of reading, in a historical perspective spanning the first half of the 20th century. From the analysis of the school texts, among other sources, such studies realize the kind of pedagogies that have dominated this object of knowledge to the swaying of the dominant policy. An "Intratextual" and "transversal" analysis to this research proposes that beyond this ideological background, emerges a pedagogical discussion that stays current about how to teach reading
