Abstract

GONZALEZ DE REQUENA FARRE, Juan Antonio. Frontiers of the subject. A liminar approach to linguistic subjectivity. Leng. [online]. 2017, vol.45, n.1, pp.89-113. ISSN 0120-3479.

This article explores how cognitive linguistics has approached subjectivity in language. Liminar grammar and perceptual linguistics proposed by Lopez (1980, 1989) provide an appropriate framework for the statement of the problem of linguistic subjectivity. A liminar and perceptual approach allows to topologically define and systematically integrate the dimensions of linguistic subjectivity, according to principles of organization and to homologue relationship patterns. In addition, a liminar perspective assumes -as a principle- the bordering character of linguistic subjectivity, inevitably traversed by the split between the subject of the utterance and the subject of the statement.

Keywords : cognitive linguistics; liminar grammar; linguistic subjectivity.
