Abstract

TOVAR, Lionel Antonio  and  LOPEZ, Lorenzo. Classification in Colombian Sign Language (LSC). Leng. [online]. 2018, vol.46, n.1, pp.11-40. ISSN 0120-3479.  https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v46i1.6194.

In this article the exploration of the academic language functions in the Colombian sign language (LSC), initiated by Tovar (2004, 2008, 2017), is continued. The purpose of the study is to present the LSC structure classification as it appears in texts produced by Deaf informants during metalinguistic discussions raised from written texts of classification in Spanish. First, the origin of taxonomies in modern science is presented as well as the lexico-grammatical structure of classification in Spanish. Then examples are given of texts produced by the signers, to illustrate and analyze the lexico-grammar of classification in LSC.

Keywords : Colombian Sign Language (LSC); language planning and policy; sign language; academic discourse; academic signacy; classification; Deaf education; bilingual education for the Deaf.
