Abstract

BLIN, Béatrice; YUDICO BECERRIL, Rodrigo Olmedo  and  MARTINEZ DE BADEREAUX, Víctor. Metalinguistic speech and contextualization: Interlinguistic descriptions of French teachers in Mexico. Leng. [online]. 2020, vol.48, n.2, pp.241-260. ISSN 0120-3479.  https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v48i2.8144.

This paper seeks to explain some distinctive features of metalinguistic speech used by French teachers in Mexico. With this aim, we analyze, describe, and categorize a set of characteristics of interlinguistic explanations of the possessive determinant in French by a group of 13 teachers of French as a foreign language from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Based on focus group data, the study explores how the participants contextualize grammatical explanations, which we categorize into five groups: opposition, differentiation, rapprochement, crossed equivalence and total equivalence. Such categories evidence how teachers mobilize strategic resources in the elaboration of grammar for understanding.
