Abstract

VILLADA CASTRO., Carolina. Onself in Alterity: Towards intercultural and relational didactics in French as a Foreign Language. Leng. [online]. 2023, vol.51, n.2, pp.438-459.  Epub July 31, 2023. ISSN 0120-3479.  https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v51i2.12685.

This paper reflects on the relevance of relational didactics in the teaching-learning process of French as a Foreign Language, so as to raise students’ awareness of alterity in themselves and of the intercultural nature of their own culture. A twofold method is proposed. First and foremost, an analytical stage that involves two moments: drawing upon the concepts of interculturalism, relational didactics and alterity, we set out to problematize ideas of ethnocentrism, monolingualism, and mononormativity. This conceptual analysis will allow for the resignification of language as an alterity experience and the teaching-learning process as a relational practice with others. A second stage of the methodology involves an extended documentary revision of a corpus of thinking based on our own teaching experience. As a result, this process will produce conceptual and pedagogical tools such as didactic sequences, inviting students to the discovery of alterity and interculturalism.

Keywords : language didactics; intercultural relations; alterity; ethics.
