Abstract
PAREDES PEREZ., Florilena and NUNEZ-MENDEZ., Maribel. Strategies and resources implemented for the development of critical thinking college students. Leng. [online]. 2024, vol.52, n.1, e20512989. Epub May 10, 2024. ISSN 0120-3479. https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v52i1.12989.
One of the relevant concerns of education at all levels is the development of the student’s critical thinking skills. It is for this reason that teachers are urged to implement strategies and resources that pursue this goal. This article presents an account of the experience of implementing the reading of literary texts and the subsequent writing of micro-essays as a strategy to foster critical thinking in upper-level undergraduate students. To this end, we have used a mixed methodology that includes the quantification of the co-occurrence of discursive elements of argumentation, and, at the same time, the essays have been evaluated through a rubric with its own criteria of critical thinking. The implementation has shown that students who analyze a literary text guided by critical level questions to produce a mini-essay show a higher degree of criticality. This is due to the inferential questions whose purpose was to promote the development of critical thinking skills. In conclusion, this study suggests linking reading and writing as a strategy, as long as the process is enriched by a brief that includes questions that guide students to take positions to defend their points of view.
