This systematic review article examined fifty studies on writing practices among teachers and students in rural contexts with bilingual education. Pedagogical approaches, such as genre-based, process-oriented, and New Literacy Studies, were identified for teaching writing. It was found that writing practices within the Escuela Nueva model are predominantly traditional and monolingual. The conclusion highlighted the need to strengthen research on writing in the Colombian rural context, emphasizing the role of the family, the teachers and the administrators in the school curriculum. Furthermore, it underscores the importance of implementing effective instructional sequences and the urgency of incorporating technology into writing practices.
