Resumen

PASUY GUERRERO, Gladys Yolanda; DAZA CASTANEDA, Andrés Felipe  y  ZULUAGA CHAVES, María Angélica. Strategies of (Im)Politeness in Freestyle. Leng. [online]. 2024, vol.52, n.1, e20713405.  Epub 27-Jun-2024. ISSN 0120-3479.  https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v52i1.13405.

Freestyle battles are a sociocultural phenomenon that brings together young people in major cities around the world. Singing, creating, and improvising to the rhythm of rap requires MCs to use strategies that will lead them to defeat their interlocutor and opponent. Beyond the verbal duel, what is at stake is protection against actions that threaten their image. The aim of this article is to describe and analyze the strategies of (im)politeness present in such duels. First, the background and theoretical references are presented, while observing the community of freestylers in the city of Manizales. From a qualitative framework, a corpus of 13 battles was transcribed and analyzed, 788 verses in which the use of vocatives and pronouns of assertive and exhortative speech acts were highlighted as the most productive resources to defeat the opponent.

Palabras clave : politeness; impoliteness; freestyle; face; vocatives; pronominalization.
