Resumen
HERNANDEZ-GREEN, Néstor. Functions of the irrealis mood in Ñhöñhö (Tolimán Otomi). Leng. [online]. 2024, vol.52, n.2, e20113413. Epub 28-Jul-2024. ISSN 0120-3479. https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v52i2.13413.
This article describes the functions of irrealis inflection in Ñhöñhö or Tolimán Otomi (Mexico; Otomanguean > Otopamean) from a written corpus that consists of 5747 tokens, organized in around 1076 clauses. This description considers the category “irrealis” as semantically and pragmatically associated with non-assertion, which allows to explain functions as dissimilar as the expression of future and the description of habitual situations, both in the present and in the past. Furthermore, this article explores the relationship of irrealis inflection in this language with subordination and contexts of indefiniteness.
Palabras clave : non-assertion; subordination; corpus linguistics; aspect.
