Abstract
MARTINEZ, Daniela Caro and ZULUAGA MOLINA, Juan Felipe. Dialectological Considerations on Expressions of Gratitude in the Aburrá Valley and Their Inclusion in SAL Teaching and Learning. Leng. [online]. 2024, vol.52, n.2, suppl.1, e20313560. Epub Oct 31, 2024. ISSN 0120-3479. https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v52i2s.13560.
In the Aburrá Valley, expressions of gratitude extend beyond a simple "thank you" (gracias) to phrases like "may God multiply it for you" (mi Dios se lo ha de multiplicar), "you are a sunshine," (sos un sol) or "all the best." (la Buena). These variations reflect not only the linguistic richness of the region but also the cultural and social realities of its speakers. This qualitative research aimed to identify expressions of gratitude (EoG) in both standard Spanish and the Paisa dialect, as well as to understand how these expressions have been addressed in the teaching of Spanish as an Additional Language (SAL). The study concludes that it is essential to teach and integrate EoG from the early stages of Spanish acquisition and across all levels, striving for a balance between their complexity, curricular inclusion, and appropriateness to the learners' proficiency level.
