Resumen
BENAVIDEZ BRAVO, Juan Sebastián y CIRO, Lirian Astrid. The Indigenism ‘arepa’ and the Africanism ‘cumbia’ in differential dictionaries of Colombia. Leng. [online]. 2025, vol.53, n.1, e20214484. Epub 01-Abr-2025. ISSN 0120-3479. https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v53i1.14484.
This paper presents an exploratory comparative analysis of Indigenisms and Africanisms in ten differential dictionaries of Colombia. The case of the Indigenism ‘arepa’ and the Africanism ‘cumbia’ is specifically studied using a qualitative methodology and a descriptive approach. In order to carry out a detailed analysis, the two examples mentioned above have been selected as part of lexical fields representative of culture: gastronomy (‘arepa’) and music (‘cumbia’). These words have been traced in all selected dictionaries, for the purpose to characterize the microstructure of their lexicographic entries. Among the main finding we note, on the one hand, the poor representation of Indigenisms and Africanisms in the Colombian lexicographic. On the other hand, the importance of developing a lexicographic model that adequately represents the lexical loans of the original Colombian Spanish language communities, considering the multicultural context and linguistic diversity of the country.
