What does Colombian semiotics study? the project titled “State of the art of semiotic studies in Colombia 2012 - 2022,” conducted by Grupo de Investigación Cultura y Narración from Universidad Industrial de Santander, sought to answer this question. The current study reports on the results of a systematic review of literature based on the search conducted in national and international databases and repositories of public and private higher education institutions. This resulted in the identification of 524 research papers, 50 books and 1,149 undergraduate and graduate research reports. Of the above, 326 documents were analyzed to describe fields and objects of knowledge of semiotic studies in the country. As a result, this article highlights the interdisciplinary nature of semiotics, through its interactions with philosophy, different sciences and arts. Furthermore, the diversity and predominance of applied semiotic research is evident, in contrast to the scarce studies in theoretical semiotics and in specific semiotics. Similarly, we describe the research lines of Colombian semiotics, especially oriented towards discursive, cultural and educational practices.
