Abstract

BLAZQUEZ SANTANA, Félix; DORTA VELAZQUEZ, José Andrés  and  VERONA MARTEL, María Concepción. Concept, perspectives and measurement of business growth. Cuad. Adm. [online]. 2006, vol.19, n.31, pp.165-195. ISSN 0120-3592.

The analysis of business growth and its explanatory factors play a basic role in the process of globalization of the world economy today. It is therefore of great interest to disentangle elements which are involved in the concept of growth. We must emphasize the fact that the variety of perspectives from those which it can be approached, the inconsistency of measurement parameters for evaluation, and the lack of an integrating model to study the many determining factors which condition it, have prevented the development of a generally-accepted definition. This work offers an analysis of different proposals which condition the concept of business growth, adopts a generic definition which covers the considerations mentioned and synthesizes the main perspectives used to study them, along with the variables most used in literature to measure that process.

Keywords : Business growth; growth perspectives; growth variables; Gibrat's law.
