OTALORA MONTENEGRO, Guillermo. The existing relation between work - family conflicts and individual stress in two Colombian organizations. Cuad. Adm. [online]. 2007, vol.20, n.34, pp.139-160. ISSN 0120-3592.

The purpose of this article is to explain how the conflicts that arise in the work - family relation are related to individual stress in two Colombian organizations, more specifically in two family equalization funds located in Bogota. Proving the following hypotheses is the main purpose of the work: (a) work load and family responsibilities are positively related to work - family conflicts and (b) work -family conflicts are positively related to individual stress. The field study conducted in the two mentioned organizations specialized in providing employees basis services such as health, housing, recreation, and education, among others, shows evidence that validates the proposed hypotheses. The authors discuss some practical and theoretical implications as well as propose a more in-depth research to enable better knowledge of mechanisms through which work - family conflicts lead to individual stress.

Palavras-chave : Work load; family responsibilities; work - family conflicts; stress.
