Abstract

Cooperation ties as a source of information for innovation. Cuad. Adm. [online]. 2010, vol.23, n.41, pp.61-79. ISSN 0120-3592.

This article discusses how business cooperation ties are a valuable tool for new product innovation and development in Mexican environmental sector micro-businesses and small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). From a business cooperation perspective and using the qualitative analysis of the experience of 29 companies, the authors found that, when entrepreneurs have a clear idea of their information needs to support their innovations, their search focuses on events in which they can learn from others, enrich their ideas, and have direct contact with innovations in different areas.Although the results cannot be generalized given the reduced number of environmental companies in Mexico, they do invite future lines of research on connecting ties and on the innovations that stem from them, to identify if such results can be reproduced and, if so, under what conditions in micro-businesses and SMBs in other sectors.

Keywords : Cooperation; innovation; Mexico; ties; micro-businesses; SMBs.
