Abstract

MARTINS, Izaias; GOMEZ-ARAUJO, Eduardo  and  VAILLANT, Yancy. The effect of export behavior on owner-manager's commitment to innovation in Colombia: insights from learning approach. Cuad. Adm. [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.49, pp.135-153. ISSN 0120-3592.

The main objective of this paper is to analyze the effect of the firm's export-behavior on the owner-manager's commitment to innovation. The principles of the Learning Theory are used to guide the framework of the study. To test the proposed hypotheses, a logistic regression model considering marginal effects is applied to a dataset from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor's Adult Population Survey of Colombia for 2010 and 2011. The study's results conclude that the exporting tendency increases the probability of the owner-manager's commitment towards innovation, confirming the idea of organizational learning from the presence in the international marketplace. However, we were no able to verify the same positive effect when the explanatory variable has been the export intensity.
