Resumen

RODRIGUEZ MORAN, OSVALDO. CONFORMATION OF A BATHIMETRIC MODEL FOR THE GULF DE MEXICO TO 1:50000 SCALE. Bol. cienc. tierra [online]. 2011, n.29, pp.87-98. ISSN 0120-3630.

The Republic of Cuba demonstrates â€"in front the Commission of Limits of the Continental Shelf of the United Nations- the natural extension of its continental Shelf beyond the 200 nautical miles, only in the high seas area in Eastern Gulf of Mexico, defined by the external limits of the economic exclusive zones of the Republic of Cuba (Cuba), the United Mexican States (Mexico) and the United States of America (United States). In the Eastern Sector of the Gulf of Mexico, the maritime boundaries of the above mentioned countries have not been delimited up to the present time. Starting from this problem it was proposed as objective the conformation of a Bathymetric Digital Model (BDM) of the area to define. In this paper is exposed the detailed description of the used datasets and the sources of obtaining of these primary data, the maps, the technical procedures and the scientific methodologies that have been applied for the conformation of BDM of this area. Also, the procedure of the calculation of the Mean Quadratic Error of the generation of BDM is shown, which was of 3.3%. This value endorses the reliability of the estimate of BDM for future reliable uses, in bathymetric studies.

Palabras clave : Gulf of México; bathymetric; maritime boundaries; commission of limits; continental shelf; Cuba.
