The purpose of this paper is the extraction of mineral resources in eastern Antioquia, sustainability and its impact on the environment posing it from the environmental and economic perspective. During the evaluation process of development of mining activities, performed by 49 technical visits to mining projects, it was possible to evaluate the development of mining and sustainability of the extraction of materials exploited based on the use and management of natural resources, means of progress and development for mining, and estimating the demand and consumption trends of these materials in the municipalities of Eastern Antioquia. Because the few studies that evaluate the mining process and the sustainability of mining in this region, is intended to allow an analysis that provide information about such processes, know the operating condition of these materials and expand knowledge regarding the conflicts generated by this activity and the general dynamics of the extraction and marketing of them.
