Resumen

ARRIETA-RODRIGUEZ, MARCO TULIO; VALENCIA-GONZALEZ, YAMILE  y  ECHEVERRI-RAMIREZ, OSCAR. USE OF BIOMINERALIZATION IN SOILS OF THE CITY OF MEDELLÍN TO MITIGATE EROSIVE PROCESSES. Bol. cienc. tierra [online]. 2012, n.32, pp.35-46. ISSN 0120-3630.

The biotechnology can be used as a tool to improve the mechanical properties of soils, providing strength and stability to the erosive attack. In this paper, was examined the effect of the application of nutrients precipitation of calcium carbonate on the native microbiota, in mitigating of erosion processes in tropical soils. The methodology used consists in collecting three soil samples from the Cerro Nutibara (Medellin-Colombia), which showed clear evidence of surface erosion. On these samples in their natural state, some tests of physical classification were executed as natural moisture content, grain size, Atterberg limits, classification Miniature Compacted Tropical (MCT) expeditiously, as well as total suction and matrix suction, dual-oedometer density, Pinhole test and Slaking test. Subsequently, to these soils were added the nutrient B4, in order to generate carbonate precipitation from the native soil bacteria and the same tests were performed on undisturbed samples. The comparison of the results of tests in treated and untreated soils allow to estimate the reduction in soil erodibitity.

Palabras clave : Biomineralization; Slaking test; Pinhole test; erodibility.
