Abstract
NORIEGA LONDONO, SANTIAGO; CABALLERO, JOSÉ HUMBERTO and RENDON RIVERA, ALBEIRO. MORFOTECTONIC STUDY OF A SECTION OF HERRADURA RIVER BETWEEN FRONTINO AND ABRIAQUÍ, WESTERN COLOMBIAN CORDILLERAN. Bol. cienc. tierra [online]. 2013, n.33, pp.71-84. ISSN 0120-3630.
This work compiles, analyzes and interprets the morphotectonic features of the middle basin of the Herradura River, located on the western cordillera of Colombia, in the vicinity of the Municipalities of Frontino and Abriaquí- Antioquia, where very pronounced geomorphological expressions associated with the San Ruperto fault system take place. The goal of this study is to identify and characterize recent active tectonic hints/evidences using morphotectonic indicators. Through the use of methodologies that integrate photogeological interpretation, morphometric analysis based on digital elevation models and data acquisition from field work, it was possible to build cartography at scale 1:20.000 that synthesize the geomorphological and morphotectonic features that indicate recent tectonic activity. The clearest evidence is located at the Potreros zone, where strike-slip faults with orientation N60°W and NNE affect the present course of the Herradura River, in addition to tilting and differential uplifting when compared with the adjacent terraces.
