Application to the reliability design of shallow foundations. Bol. cienc. tierra [online]. 2018, n.44, pp.38-48. ISSN 0120-3630. https://doi.org/10.15446/rbct.n44.69266.
This research tackles the usual lack of certainty in the definition of soil properties for the design of geotechnical projects. A novel procedure is proposed to incorporate random local uncertainty of soil properties in geostatistics analysis aimed at estimating values of parameters in zones without physical information like borings. Real values measured from samples obtained in local borings are considered as deterministic data, and are fed to the geostatistics model. However, measurements taken from two close borings may show different values, which indicate the natural inherent variation of soil properties. A modification to conventional geostatistics is presented to consider the random local uncertainty observed in geotechnical parameters. Both standard and modified procedures are applied to the reliability based design of a shallow footing.
