Abstract

ACOSTA BENITEZ, Milton. The Merneptah Stele and Unemployment Rate: Ideology and Theology in the Historiography of the Origins of Israel. Theol. Xave. [online]. 2013, vol.63, n.176, pp.307-330. ISSN 0120-3649.

During the last three centuries, one of the most important questions related to biblical studies is how historical biblical accounts are. Even the most conservative biblical scholars have concluded that the origin of Israel is extremely complex: direct evidence is not always possible and the researcher's ideology plays a crucial role in biblical research. This work is intended to illustrate why it is not possible to reach consensus or to have a final word about the origins of Israel in Canaan. It is up to readers to choose the most suitable argument under the light of the evidence presented.

Keywords : Merneptah; historiography; ideology, Israel; minimalism; maximalism.
