Abstract

CARDONA, Álvaro; MEJIA O, Luz Mery; NIETO L, Emmanuel  and  RESTREPO V, Román. Critical issues in the reform to the Law of social security in Colombia in its chapter related to health. Rev. Fac. Nac. Salud Pública [online]. 2005, vol.23, n.1, pp.117-133. ISSN 0120-386X.

Some of the main issues concerning Public Health that should be analyzed on the purpose of carrying out a reform of the Colombian Social Security Law (Law 100/ 1993) are presented. Each one of those issues has been shaped with available official statistics and complemented with contextual comments about economical and social conditions of the country. It is concluded that the National Congress and the Central Government should pass reforms of the law in order to help solving poor social conditions of great number of citizens, avoiding the persisting in the ideological obstinacy on free-market.

Keywords : Public health; social security; Law 100 of 1993.
