The present article talks about social protection and their strategies applied in Colombia, from the proposal of the World Bank of 2000. The relevance of the concept and its location in the area of integral social security is discussed, concluding that it is a strategy to jeopardize social and private sectors, in order to involve them in the participation in the market implementing the mechanisms of a social security restricted to the poorest, but excluding in most cases other population sectors, as a result of the structural adjustments in our countries and of the recent economic crisis.
