Research on health management, policies and systems requires more development in the Colombian city, regional and national levels in order to generate knowledge that allow to address health problems in general population. This paper revises international and national trends that, within a context of a health sector reform, have been encouraged by several organizations in order to strengthen research on health policies and systems, as well as methodological approaches involved. Some actions are proposed to be developed by researchers Research on health management, policies and systems and research centres from the region to provide scientific knowledge to support decision-making at all levels of government and public and private health organizations.
