The human-nature relationship is becoming more and more disturbed. That is why some public policies are required to protect the environment from damage for every artificial intervention. It seems appropriate to assess the effect of environmental licenses in Medellín as a protective policy. A thoroughly review of the literature in this regard was carried out, specifically those with Curva de Rodas and La Pradera sanitary landfills. Successes and failures of these political tools are discussed, as well as their potential influen- Environmental licences and their effects on the environment, Medellín, 2004-2005 ces on public services, environment and the health of the whole community.
