OBJECTIVE:this study aims to analyze the perception of professionals and users of the Brazilian’s Unified Health System (sus), on a health district of the city of Porto Alegre, in relation to the Social Determinants of Health (SDH). METHODOLOGY The research was conducted with 34 health professionals and 64 users of SUS. The professionals responded to a semi-structured interview and focus groups were conducted with the health system users. In both cases we investigated the perception of users and professionals regarding the SDH. We conducted an intersectional content analysis. RESULTS : The results demonstrated that there are five prominent categories for professionals and health users are these: access/quality of food, community conditions, violence, mental health and health services evaluation. In the categories emerged differences and similarities between the different actors (professionals and users) in relation to the process of health care, needs of the population and forms of intervention. CONCLUSIONS :The analysis expandst he understanding of the SDH and reinforces the importance of other social policies to be implemented on these communities.
