Abstract

The essay deals with a description and an analysis of slavery as a legal institution and as an economic activity, as well as with highlighting the reasons and vicissitudes experienced by the process of its abolition in the Colombian context. The essay keeps track of the legislation regulating slavery over time. Also it shows the arguments that were raised about its legitimacy or illegitimacy, and its convenience or inconvenience. From the field of the history of Law, it will show the details of such a controversial law-political institution that came to be clinched in the era of the late liberal constitutionalism.
