Abstract
RUNGE PENA, Andrés Klaus and MUNOZ GAVIRIA, Diego Alejandro. Activity vs. Agitation at the Thought of Luis López de Mesa: Relations Between Pedagogy and Eugenics in Colombia in the Early Twentieth Century.. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2011, n.61, pp.21-51. ISSN 0120-3916.
This paper shows the blurred boundaries between eugenics and education based on Luis López de Mesa ideas. Luis López de Mesa was an important intellectual for the Colombian society in the first half of the twentieth century. Based on the distinction between activity and excitement this author develops a way of thinking articulated to the civilizing and modernizing process, which, in turn, it is articulated to program of progressive education in Colombia. The ideas of López de Mesa about activity and agitation are the expression of such pedagogical thinking in Colombia of the early twentieth century which sought not only to defend the social order but an order in the process of formation of individuals. Pedagogy and eugenics begin to show a sort of ever-closer relationship which this paper reflects.
