Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Claudia Milena. Re-signifying memoirs: Armed conflict in Colombian immigrants' narrative living in Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2012, n.62, pp.59-74. ISSN 0120-3916.

The experience of Colombian immigrants in Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) generates a series of learning and changes in several subjectivity areas. Indeed it is about changes related to incorporation of new knowledge and expertise, expansion or modification of interpretative settings to mean a specific social reality, and a relationship of these individuals with themselves. The context of experience is an important issue to generate subjective changes. For Colombian immigrants, AMBA enables a series of reflections and speeches -i.e. typical knowledge schools in this context- that permeate their interpretation settings to a recent past. Besides, their meaningful experiences are turning points which extend, modify and trigger their narrative memoirs. They are linked to distance physically and emotionally from the Colombian environment, and interaction and dialogue brought forward (among Colombian and native people or residents in AMBA) about memoirs of political violence and state terrorism. From them, Colombians have redefined the Colombian armed conflict in terms of a denatured violence, recognizing its own regional dimension, renaming the collective experience, and sometimes an emergence of change awareness.
