Abstract

ROBAYO TORRES, Aydee Luisa. Teaching Subjectivities in Colombian Public Universities. Communities of Practice According to their own Narratives. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2015, n.68, pp.229-263. ISSN 0120-3916.

This research intended to reveal the subjectivity of teachers in Colombian public university from the modes of subjectification tracked in narratives on the life stories of two communities of practice, natives and immigrants in education. The first community is defined as: teacher trainers, namely those whose primary knowledge allegedly relies on concrete and explicit bets on learning, teaching, pedagogy and education (Persky, 2001). Immigrants, on the other hand, come from knowledge areas other than pedagogy, but they have achieved their affiliation, thanks to a rather marginal bet for pedagogy, as a result of negotiations concerning the meaning of learning, education, etc. A negotiated meaning, following Wenger (2001), "is both historical, and dynamic, contextual and unique." Semi-structured interviews and content analysis are the methods used to screen the stories derived from six life stories -3 natives and 3 immigrants, 3 females and 3 males-. These people were chosen based on the following criteria: belonging to only one of the two communities, having over 25 years of teaching experience in Colombian public university. One of the conclusions of this research is that it makes explicit the existence of classes, lineages, communities of teaching practice at the university, which possess a linguistic market that affiliates its members.
